Zener diodes are semiconductor devices that allow current to flow in the forward direction like a regular diode, but also allow it to flow in the reverse direction when the voltage reaches a certain threshold known as the Zener voltage. When the Zener voltage is reached, the diode starts to conduct in the reverse direction, providing a stable voltage reference or regulation.
