Working Principle

Description

The GY-31 TCS3200 Color Sensor Module uses the TCS3200 IC, which is a programmable color light to frequency converter. It features configurable silicon photodiodes and a current to frequency converter integrated into a single CMOS IC. The output from the sensor is a square wave with a 50% duty cycle, where the frequency is directly proportional to the light intensity (irradiance).

Dos And Donts

Donts

  • Exceed Voltage Limits: Do not supply the sensor with a voltage outside of the 2.7V to 5.5V range to avoid damaging the sensor.,
  • Expose To Extreme Conditions: Avoid exposing the sensor to temperatures outside its specified range of -45°C to 85°C.,
  • Ignore Power Down Feature: Utilize the power down feature to save power when the sensor is not in active use.

Dos

  • Interface With Microcontrollers: Can be directly interfaced with Microcontrollers, Arduino Boards, Raspberry Pi, etc.,
  • Use Within Specified Voltage: Ensure the operating voltage is maintained between 2.7V and 5.5V.,
  • Consider Operating Temperature: Operate the sensor within the temperature range of -45°C to 85°C.
Limits

Current

  • Typical Operating: 25mA

Frequency Response

  • Non-Linearity Error: 0.2% at 50KHz typically

Temperature

  • Minimum: -45°C,
  • Maximum: 85°C

Voltage

  • Minimum: 2.7V,
  • Maximum: 5.5V
How To Connect

General Guidance

  • Description: The sensor module can be connected directly to a variety of microcontrollers and development boards. It typically interfaces through digital input pins where the frequency of the output square wave can be measured.
