Working Principle

Description

The Grove Gas Sensor (MQ9) detects various gases by measuring the changes in the conductivity of the sensor material when exposed to gases. It is particularly sensitive to LPG, i-butane, methane, alcohol, hydrogen, smoke, and other combustible gases.

MQ9

Dos And Donts

Donts

  • Expose To Water: Avoid exposing the sensor to water or moisture as it can damage the sensor.,
  • Use In Extreme Temperatures: Do not use the sensor in environments with extreme temperatures as it may affect the sensor's performance and longevity.

Dos

  • Ensure Proper Ventilation: When using the sensor, ensure the area is well-ventilated to avoid accumulation of gases which can be hazardous.,
  • Calibrate Regularly: Regular calibration is necessary to maintain accuracy of the gas readings.,
  • Use Correct Power Supply: Ensure that the sensor is connected to a 5V power supply as recommended.
Limits

Gas Detection

  • Description: The sensor is designed to detect a wide range of combustible gases but may not be suitable for detecting non-combustible gases or low concentrations of certain gases.
How To Connect

With Arduino

  • Steps: Connect the sensor to the Arduino board using the Grove cable. Use digital or analog pins to read the sensor output.

With Raspberry Pi

  • Steps: Interface the sensor with Raspberry Pi using a compatible Grove Pi shield or similar module that can handle 5V inputs.
