Working Principle

Description

The Waveshare Infrared Reflective Sensor operates by using an infrared transmitter and receiver. The transmitter emits infrared light (830nm-950nm wavelength) when current is applied. The receiver, equipped with a special PN junction, converts received infrared light into an electrical signal. The intensity of the received light, which varies with obstacle proximity and properties, modulates the output signal.

Dos And Donts

Donts

  • Expose To Direct Sunlight: Avoid using the sensor in direct sunlight to prevent inaccurate readings.,
  • Exceed Current Ratings: Do not inject current exceeding the maximum rating as it may reduce the efficiency of the infrared light.

Dos

  • Use Within Specified Voltage: Operate the sensor within a voltage range of 3.3V to 5V.,
  • Consider Obstacle Color: Remember that detection range varies with the color of the obstacle; it is farthest for white.,
  • Mount Properly: Use the mounting hole (3mm diameter) to secure the sensor properly.
Limits

Detection Range

  • Minimum: 2cm,
  • Maximum: 30cm

Environmental

  • Usage: Indoor only to avoid the effects of sunlight.
